Terrence E. Reilly

Reilly, Terrence Edward, died peacefully in his sleep at his Miami Beach home in the early morning hours of May 23, 2015 at the age of 95. He was born in Riverside, Rhode Island to immigrant parents. His father, Michael Reilly, emigrated to the U.S from Ireland at the age of 17 during the second potato famine in search of work and a better life and his mother, Flora DePine, was French Canadian and emigrated to the U.S with her family in the early 1900's. Like so many others from the "greatest generation", Terrence answered the call to serve his country and fight for freedom during World War II. He enlisted in the Army at the age of 21 and served for 4 years, primarily in the Middle East. He was a natural leader that was dedicated to the cause and quickly rose through the ranks to become a Captain while on active duty during the war and later achieved the rank of Major while serving in the Army reserves after the war. He felt honored to have served his country militarily and flew the American flag in front of all his residences through the years. After the war, he was able to attend college under the G.I. Bill and earned a business degree from Bryant College in three years of accelerated study. He then began his career in finance in the Rhode Island area and started a family. In 1957, he moved his young and expanding family from Rhode Island to Fort Lauderdale after securing a position as head cashier with the banking group then known as Broward Banks and which later merged to become Sun Bank. He had a successful career there, climbing the ladder to become president of the new bank the group opened in Plantation in 1976.
In his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with his friends, creating stained glass artwork and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Virginia; his daughter: Katherine; his sons: Terrence, Stephen and John Kevin; his grandchildren: Elizabeth & Myles and his great grandchildren: Sabrina, Olivia and Amelia. While deeply saddened by his passing, his family is very proud of the life he lived, one of honesty, integrity, caring and one of love and devotion to his family and country.
