Somnia Quesada

Somnia Quesada passed away yesterday, peacefully in her sleep. Somnia is survived by her loving husband of nearly 60 years, Silvio Quesada; their daughters: Somnia Paradela (Amancio) and Saimara Costero (Raul) and son Pablo S. Quesada (Emilia), and their grandchildren Amancio Paradela (Nathan Moyer); Melissa, Jessica and Natalie Costero; and Katherine and Kristen Quesada. She is also survived by her sister, and best friend, Thania Valledor. Somnia was born in La Habana, Cuba on November 29, 1937, to Jose R. Gonzalez and Josefina Caraballo. She attended the Instituto Edison in La Vibora, La Habana, Cuba and proceeded to La Universidad de La Habana, where she obtained her degree in elementary education. Somnia and Silvio met in La Habana and subsequently married on August 19, 1956. Somnia and Silvio left Cuba in April 1962, briefly living in Miami, before moving to San Juan, Puerto Rico for nearly a decade, and returning to Hialeah in 1972. Somnia was a devout and loving daughter, wife, mother, and most importantly, grandmother, who dedicated herself to her grandchildren. She also loved her home and garden, and worked and volunteered for Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Given her gift for numbers, she became, later in life, a dedicated tax preparer, cherishing each tax season, as an opportunity to reunite with her clients, who inevitably became friends. Notwithstanding her almost two year battle with pancreatic cancer, Somnia remained strong until the end, enjoying her life to the fullest with her family and friends. Viewing services will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Vista Memorial Gardens, located at 14200 NW 57th Avenue, Miami Lakes, FL 33014. Visitation hours will be from 5:00PM to 12:00AM. The family requests that instead of Flowers, a donation to the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center be made in Somnia's name.
