Reverend George Gerov

Bulgarian-born Archpriest, the Very Reverend George Gerov, died at 95 in Miami Beach, Florida on Easter day March 27, 2016. Born in Preslav, Bulgaria on February 2nd, 1921, he came to the United States as a parish priest in 1962 serving the Bulgarian/American Orthodoxy in Bulgaria, New York, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida. He contributed 75 years of service to the ministry as well as social services in numerous hospitals, helping many people through his steadfast, generous and charismatic spirit. Father George dedicated his life to stewardship of church, country and fellow man. He is remembered by friends and family for his ingenuity, generosity, perseverance in the face of adversity, magnificent singing voice; and most of all for his devotion to God and family.

Father George is survived by Vasilka Gerova, loving wife of 75 years, his daughter Ginka Gerova Ortega, son-in-law Dr. Jesus Ortega, son Eugene Gerov, daughter-in-law Miriam Gerov, as well as two grandchildren, Irena Ortega Tervo, husband William Tervo, Julian George Ortega and wife Anne Ortega as well as four great-grandchildren, Jonah Tervo, Sarah Tervo, Maia Ortega and Marcus Ortega.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Father George will be forever loved and missed by friends and family.

March 31st 2016, viewing from 6-9 pm with a service at 7:00 pm
April 1st 2016, Funeral service at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes.

Flowers may be sent to The Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Savior on Thursday before 2pm and after 5pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
