Pedro Cespedes Sr., of Miami, died Tuesday, March 10, 2026 with his wife Miryam, and their three children by his side. Pedro is survived by his wife Miryam, his three children (Pedro Jr., Vivian, and Diana), six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pedro was born to the late Maria Antonia Rodriguez Medina and Francisco Cespedes Quintana on June 29, 1941 in Camagüey, Cuba. Pedro was raised in Camagüey with his three older siblings, Delia, Adela, and Andres.

Pedro graduated from Escuela De Agrimensura as a land surveyor and appraiser in 1961. From 1960 to 1965, Pedro worked as a teacher of land surveying and ran his own business as a land surveyor and draftsman for clients including neighboring farm owners and the Cuban Ministry of Public Health. As a young man in Cuba, Pedro’s favorite hobbies were mechanical, electrical, and wood working, as well as horseback riding and swimming.

Pedro married Miryam Gonzalez Costo in a ceremony surrounded by friends and family on August 31, 1963 in Camagüey, Cuba. Pedro and Miryam were married for 62 beautiful years. In 1965, Pedro and Miryam bravely emigrated from Cuba with their infant son, Pedro Jr., to pursue the American Dream in hopes of a better life for their family. During their journey to the United States, Pedro, Miryam, and Pedro Jr., lived with Pedro’s sister, Delia, in Cartegena, Colombia for approximately three months while awaiting entry to the United States. In August 1965, Pedro, Miryam, and Pedro Jr. joined Pedro’s brother, Andres and his family, in New York City.

Pedro and Miryam lived in Jackson Heights, New York for approximately 12 years and had two more children, Vivian and Diana. During this time, Pedro worked in commercial refrigeration with his brother-in-law, Jorge, and then at the phone company with his brother, Andres, and his best friend Esteban, determined to save money to put toward their dream home in Miami, Florida.

Eventually, Pedro and Miryam moved their family to Florida and briefly lived with Miryam’s sister Mercy and her husband Alberto before Pedro purchased their home in 1979. Pedro and Miryam lived in their Winston Park home until 2024. Pedro continued working for the phone company and, with Miryam, raised his three children of whom they were always so proud and supportive. During this time, Pedro and Miryam enjoyed hosting large family gatherings where Pedro was always the life of the party. Pedro cherished their home in Miami, specifically the backyard, where he grew an orchid garden and built a gazebo by hand. Pedro’s favorite holiday was the 4th of July, and beginning in 1986 Pedro brought his family to the Charter Club in Marco Island every summer to celebrate. While in Marco Island, Pedro loved spending time on the beach, boating, and eating chocolate ice cream while watching fireworks with his family; who will continue these traditions.

After retiring in 2016, Pedro continued his favorite hobbies and could always be found tinkering in the garage, doing home repairs and renovations, and creating new inventions like one of the very first iPad holders, and an avocado picker for the avocado tree in their backyard. Pedro enjoyed photography and loved to travel and to learn about the history of the world. He visited Grand Turk, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Spain, and took a 50th wedding anniversary trip to Hawaii with the entire family. Above all else, Pedro cherished spending time with his family and creating special memories. He was a beloved father and grandfather. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. He will be forever in our hearts.

Por encima de todo, Pedro valoraba pasar tiempo con su familia y crear recuerdos especiales. Fue un padre y un abuelo muy querido. Tuvimos la inmensa fortuna de tenerlo en nuestras vidas.
