Patricia Ann Nelson

Patricia Ann Nelson, a resident of Miami, Fl. w ent to be with our lord on September 26 , 2021, at home surrounded by loved ones . Pat transitioned at the age of 67 after a courageous and valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Philadelphia , Penn. on March 29, 1954, to Robert G. Nelson and Eleanor M. Schaefer. She lived in Bowie, M d, attended Lynchburg University at Lynchburg Va. , graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1976 with majors in Psychology and Sociology. In 19 8 6 , she completed her master's degree in Counseling Psychology at Nova Southeastern University , Fl. She is predeceased by her father R o bert, her mother Eleanor, her brother Christopher, and her daughter Jennifer.
Patricia is survived by three brothers: Robert, George (Marcia), Kevin (Karen) ; by her nephews/nieces: Robbie, Melaney (Chris), George (Lorena), Chris (Andy) , Jessie (Cesar), Luis , Adam, April ( S hannon) and by her grand nieces/nephews: Penny, Grace, and Georgie .
Also surviving Pat is her partner and soulmate of 25 years, Carmen , her children David (Bea), Elizabeth (Robert ) , grandchild Alexander and soul sister Ruth .
A public servant for over 40 years for the State of Florida , she worked as a C ounselor for the J uvenile D etention C enter , followed by her positions as a State Child Protective Officer and eventually became a Psycholog ist /Counselor for the same agency . She was certified as a N ational E xpert W itness in child abuse cases , testifying in numerous cases. She retired in 2017 from DOC-Probation and Parole Services as a S enior S upervisor and C ertified L aw E nforcement I nstructor responsible for much of the training of officers and staff. She also served as a Broward Community College Adjunct Instructor for law enforcement. She w as well respected and loved by all who knew her as she had a special gift to inspire people to feel good about themselves and strive to do their best .
She was an avid athlete, amateur photographer, musician, painter , etcher, and graphic artist. As an athlete she actively participated in skiing, golf, racket ball, volleyball, archery , equestrianism and was a sprinter in her youth. Pat loved cruising and traveling in general . She was a passionate animal and nature lover . Grieving with us are Kiwi, Molly, Jona, Jack, Jed, Amelia, Philly , Peanut and Oscar.
A viewing is scheduled for October 12, 2021, from 5:00PM to 10:00 PM at Vista Funeral Home , 14200 NW 57 th Ave. Miami Lakes, Fl. The service will be at 7:30 PM .
