Ohilda E Araujo

Ohilda Araujo (née Santiesteban), best known as "Nena" to her family and friends, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones, on May 2, 2022, in Miami, Florida.  She was 91.

Nena was born in Holguin, Cuba, on May 12, 1930, the 11 ^th of 12 children – she was the baby girl and her siblings doted on her.  Nena immigrated to the United States at the age of 21, joining some of those siblings, in pursuit of the American Dream.  She cherished the time she spent with her siblings and with her nieces and nephews, whom she often babysat.  While visiting friends in New York, she met Raimundo Araujo, a handsome fellow Cuban immigrant, and they married in 1966.  After the birth of their daughter, Brigida, they moved to Hialeah, FL, where they bought their first and only home, and settled down to raise a family; several years later, they had a son, Raimundo.  Nena's passion was her family.  She was a loyal wife, a devoted mother, a loving grandmother to her only grandson, and a beloved sister and aunt.  Nena loved music – particularly tango – and she often filled her home with music.

Nena is once again holding hands with Raimundo.  She was the last of her siblings, so she is now reunited with them and with her father and mother, whom she adored.

She is survived by her two children, Brigida Benitez of Washington, DC, and Raimundo Araujo, of Miami Lakes, FL, and her beloved grandson, Joseph Araujo.
