Obituary


Nelson Alba, respected Emmy Award journalist, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026 at his home in Eastern Shores, North Miami Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife Marlen Alba, daughters Monica Alba- Nunez, and Natasha Alba-Emond, sons-in-law Jeovany Nunez and Joshua Emond, grandchildren Dr. Kaila Fives-Patel (husband, Aaron Patel), Madison Fives, Jacob Emond, Isabella Emond and Ethan Nunez.

Born in Havana, Cuba his arrival with parents in exile, at 7 years old, Nelson kept and treasured his culture and love for Cuba. He studied and worked in Champaign-Urbana, University of Illinois later graduating from the University of South Florida in Political and Social Sciences, minor in Journalism. He followed his uncle Jose Antonio Alba on the path of communications and journalism. He started his career with the PBS WEDU Station in Tampa, that led to WPLG, Channel 10 in Miami, Telemundo, Univision and a weekly program on Channel 39 “En Una Hora” and “30/30 with Nelson Alba.”

As student of History and Political Sciences, he was inspired by the ideals of Jefferson, Marti, Bolivar and all the great men and women who have made history. His curiosity, restlessness and the passion for service involved him in numerous appointments at the federal and local level. As a contractor to TechniArts under the U. S. Information Agency (USIA) he led the pioneer journalists in the production of TV Marti.

Alba was recognized in the print, television and radio industries for his work in search for the news and issues addressing justice and human rights. His writings, television and radio productions focused on Latin America and the Caribbean as a contributor to Worldwatch, The International Political and Economic Review. He also served as a federal grant Reviewer and evaluator for over 30 years to the U. S. Department of Education, Department of Justice and Department of Labor.

His words to Time Magazine captured that “Jefferson was not a perfect man but a man of immense sensibility, his humanity made him special” which guided him along his own personal journey.

Nelson, dad, abuelo… you will be so lovingly missed! We love you so much!
