Mirta Lopez, 86 years old, passed away on Sunday March 23, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Havana Cuba on January 27, 1939, to the late Candida Rosa Travieso and Jesus Fonseca Arias. Mirta was the youngest of two siblings, her brother Rene Arias. She grew up in La Lisa in Havana and worked at Clinica Cruz Azul, where she met her spouse of 65 years, a true and eternal love.
Mirta also grew up with and was close to her three cousins, whom she loved with all her heart… Dagoberto, Emilio, and Mario Riveron. She enjoyed telling us about their great times together, the funny stories and how protected and loved they made her feel.
Mirta married surviving spouse Juan Lopez on January 21, 1960, it was love at first sight for both, as he arrived on a stretcher at Clinica Cruz Azul with a serious leg injury. Later had two children Barbara and Frank, who were the light of their soul; they along with her brother/family and her parents left Cuba in 1968, to escape communism and make a better life. We lived eight beautiful years in Chicago before moving to South Florida, where they made their forever home with our dog Toby. Always close to us, her brother, Rene, sister-in-law Genoveva and her nephew Lazaro, whom she loved so much.
Mirta dedicated her life to her family, always there with a listening ear and a warm embrace, she was an exceptional mother, wife, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She will always be remembered for her love for people, warmth, and generosity. When her grandchildren were born, Vanessa and Brent, they became the center of their lives and loved taking them to parks and Disney besides working on school projects and spending quality time with them at home.
Mirta worked at CAC (Clinica Asociacion Cubana) for 25 years, an exceptional Medicare Sales Representative, who loved her job and went above and beyond for all the patients, whom she called "her viejitos". She was religious and had great faith in God, loved watching the Ten Comments. Also, had a passion for interior decorating and shopping, loved decorating her home and shopped till she dropped, always surprised us with presents. She enjoyed dining out and traveling with family and friends. Mirta was a vivid reader, loved history, there was not a name or year she did not remember. She also enjoyed reading about movie stars, watching HGTV, CSI, soap operas, and crossword puzzles.
Our mom, grandmother and wife was the guiding force of our life, she was our pillar of strength. Always full of stories about her beloved family, cousins, and the free Cuba it was once. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, she decorated the entire house enjoying every moment with my dad, every year we looked forward to Christmas day. We also had fun watching movies, dining out, going dancing back in the days beside the usual… driving by tropical park, savoring a white chocolate mocha coffee at Starbucks with a chocolate chip cookie and people watch. "We will miss you dearly, Mom," your love and great memories will forever be in our hearts.
We will always love you ❤️❤️❤️
Mirta is survived by her husband Juan Lopez, children Barbara Lopez and Frank Lopez and her two grandchildren Vanessa Lopez and Brent Lopez.
