Milagros Maria Blanco, 97, of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Milagros was born on April 28, 1929, in Guanabacoa, Cuba, to the late Mercedes Franca Giro and Juan Giro. Her early life was marked by extraordinary hardship and resilience. As a child, she lived in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, fled with her family to France in 1939, and was later captured by the Germans during World War II. She spent four years in an internment camp before returning to Cuba in 1943 as part of a prisoner exchange for seven Germans detained in Cuba. These experiences shaped her strength, perseverance, and gratitude. 

On January 19, 1952, Milagros married her teenage sweetheart and the love of her life, David Blanco. Together they built a life in Havana, Cuba, before immigrating to the United States in October 1960, where they embraced new opportunities while remaining deeply devoted to their family and heritage. 

Milagros possessed a wonderful creative spirit and expressed her artistic talents through many different mediums, creating beautiful works that reflected her imagination and love of beauty. She also embraced life with curiosity and enthusiasm, and even at 97 years old she enjoyed keeping up with family and friends by checking Facebook every day. Above all else, she will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a loyal friend whose kindness, warmth, and unwavering love enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Her remarkable journey, from surviving war and hardship to building a life filled with love, family, and creativity, was a testament to her resilience, courage, and enduring spirit. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unconditional love that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her loving children, her sister, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Blanco; her son-in-law, Dr. Jose Marrero; her brother, Rene Giro; and other cherished family members.
