Mercedes Gallego

On the morning of May 9th, 2020, Mercedes Gallego, 83, loving mother and grandmother peacefully passed after a battle with melanoma in Hollywood, FL. She was born on July 27th, 1936 to Manuel Jorge and Alicia Mallon in Havana, Cuba.

She married Juan Gallego in 1955, with whom she migrated from Cuba to the United States. She gave birth to two children while living in New York, Juan Carlos Gallego in 1961 and Mercy Gallego in 1962.  Mercedes and Juan owned and ran a successful retail store, JMG Discount in Queens, New York for several years. Aside from her work, Mercedes was a talented seamstress and chef. Following her retirement, she relocated to Hollywood Beach, FL with her husband to be close to her daughter and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, John Carlos Gallego and Mercy Hollands, and grandchildren, Rachel and Andrew Hollands. All of whom she loved and touched deeply. Mercedes was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend who treasured every moment with her loved ones. She was the definition of a beautiful woman, inside & out, who was always selfless, funny, kind, and loving. She will be missed very deeply by many
