Mercedes Castañeda

Mercedes Castañeda, 93, of Hialeah, Florida peacefully passed away on November, 18, 2024 in the presence of her loving family. She was the last living member of a family of 6 siblings. She now joins her husband, parents and siblings who share in the peace of the light of God.

She was born in Guantanamo, Cuba on August 24, 1931 to Camilo and Estrella Outumuro. She married Hector Castañeda, her beloved husband, in 1957.

Mercedes emigrated from Cuba, in 1966, to New York where she reunited with her husband. She relished running her own bakery for several years. However, the desire to live near her parents and siblings led her to move to Florida in 1969.

She was a force of nature, an elegant woman with beautiful blue eyes who prided herself on always being well dressed and looking her best. Her presence was noted when she entered a room. Mercedes was so full of love and had a great desire to help anyone in her family. There was no greater evidence of this than her devotion and care for her parents until their passing. Her strength was unequivocal as she navigated becoming a widow at the age of 56. Although she did not have children of her own, Mercedes showered her nephews and nieces with an abundance of love and caring. Her generosity of helpfulness was visible under any circumstances and was much appreciated.

Mercedes and her sister, Estrella de Leon were widowed within a few years of each other, which led the sisters to become inseparable with a bond so strong that it shaped the rest of their lives. Estrella's daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly blessed by this bond as was our beloved "Tia Mercedes". Without exception, all of her siblings and their families were showered with love from Mercedes whether they lived in Cuba or the United States.

She will always be remembered for her infectious smile, her beautiful blue eyes, her strength of character and for her love of God and her family.

A memorial service will be held at Vista Funeral Home at 5755 N.W. 142nd Street, Miami Lakes, Florida 33014 on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to say our final goodbyes to a loving soul who meant so much to us.

Mercedes Castañeda, de 93 años, de Hialeah, Florida, falleció en la paz del Senior el 18 de noviembre de 2024 en la presencia de su amada familia. Era la última sobreviviente de sus 6 hermanos. Ahora se junta con su esposo, padres y hermanos que comparten la paz de la luz de Dios.

Nació en Guantánamo, Cuba, el 24 de agosto de 1931, hija de Camilo y Estrella Outumuro. Se casó con Héctor Castañeda, su amado esposo, en 1957.

Mercedes emigró de Cuba en 1966 a Nueva York, donde se reencontró con él. Disfrutó de tener su propia panadería durante varios años. Sin embargo, el deseo de vivir cerca de sus padres y hermanos la llevó a mudarse a la Florida en 1969.

Mercedes era una fuerza de la naturaleza, una mujer elegante de hermosos ojos azules que se enorgullecía de estar siempre bien vestida y lucir lo mejor posible. Su presencia era notada cuando entraba en cualquier recepción. Mercedes estaba llena de amor y tenía un gran deseo de ayudar a cualquier miembro de su familia. No había mayor evidencia de esto que su devoción y cuidado por sus padres hasta que fallecieron. Su fortaleza fue inequívoca mientras se enfrentaba a la viudez en la edad de 56 años. Aunque no tenía hijos propios, Mercedes colmó a sus sobrinos y sobrinas con una abundancia de amor y cuidado. Su generosidad de ayuda era visible en cualquier circunstancia y era muy apreciada.

Mercedes y su hermana, Estrella de León, enviudaron con pocos años de diferencia, lo que llevó a las hermanas a volverse inseparables y a crear un vínculo tan fuerte que las marcó el resto de sus vidas. Las hijas, nietos y bisnietos de su hermana, Estrella, fueron verdaderamente bendecidos con este vínculo, al igual que nuestra querida "Tía Mercedes" lo disfruto. Sin excepción, todo sus hermanos y sus familias recibieron el amor de Mercedes, tanto los que viviàn en Cuba como en los Estados Unidos.

Siempre será recordada por su sonrisa contagiosa, sus hermosos ojos azules, su fuerza de carácter y por su amor a Dios y a su familia.

Se llevará a cabo un servicio conmemorativo en Vista Funeral Home en 5755 NW 142nd Street, Miami Lakes, Florida 33014 el jueves 21 de noviembre de 2024 de 9:30 a. m. a 12:30 p. m. para decir nuestro último adiós a un alma amorosa que significó tanto para nosotros.
