Maria Machado, age 84, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2025, in Hialeah, Florida. Born on April 9, 1941, in Havana, Cuba, Maria lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and an enduring love for her family and faith.
Maria began her journey in nursing in Havana, where she graduated from nursing school in 1962. Her passion for caring for others led her to pursue further education after immigrating to the United States. In 1974, she settled in Hialeah and earned a scholarship to Florida International University in Miami. There, she obtained her bachelor's degree in nursing a testament to her determination and commitment to her calling.
Her professional career spanned over three decades at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, where she served as a registered nurse. For 30 years, Maria provided compassionate care to countless patients and was known among colleagues for her unwavering dedication and gentle spirit. Her work left a lasting impact on the community she served so faithfully.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Maria was a woman of many talents and deep passions. A lifelong lover of music, she played both the guitar and the piano with joy and skill. In 1985, she graduated from the Wagner Music Conservatory with credentials that allowed her to offer private piano lessons, sharing her love of music with others became one of her greatest joys. Her other passion was dancing. She was the first one on the dance floor and the last one standing. Whether playing an instrument or dancing to a favorite tune, Maria's vibrant spirit shone through every note and step.
Her Catholic faith was central to her life. A devoted parishioner of St. John the Apostle Church in Hialeah, Maria attended services regularly and found great comfort in prayer. She held a deep reverence for God and the saints and prayed the rosary nightly before bed until illness made it no longer possible. Her spiritual devotion was a guiding light throughout her life.
Maria's warmth extended deeply into her family life. She is survived by her children Robert Machado and Jennifer Machado, her grandchildren Stuart Machado and Danielle Haddad and her great-grandchild Christopher. Her late husband, Roberto Machado, preceded her in death.
Those who knew Maria remember her as joyful and kind-hearted always smiling, always ready to dance or share a song. Her good nature and genuine soul touched everyone around her. She truly was an angel on earth whose legacy of love and grace will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
