Maria Luisa Albistu

On January 16, 2023, Maria (Mary) L. Albistu (Torres) passed away peacefully at
age 88. Born in Havana Cuba she met her soulmate, Gustavo Albistu when they
were teenagers and were married in 1960. Shortly thereafter Mary and Gustavo
exiled from their native country in favor of The United States of America
embracing freedom and a new beginning.
Mary worked outside the home for nearly 25 years and while she did not know it
at the time, she was an exemplary role model for her daughters on the challenges
and triumphs of "work/life balance" before that was even a term in the 1970's
and 1980's. Mary's personal interests were the well-being of her family, her
home, fashion, dinner parties, spending time with very close friends, travel and
her love of flowers. Mary was as unique and beautiful as the exotic orchids she
cultivated over the years.
Mary predeceased her husband, Gustavo Albistu by three days. She is survived by
her daughter Ercilia M. Albistu and her wife, Sally L. Phillips; her daughter Gisela
A. LoPiano and her husband Mike and their sons, Michael and Andrew, all of
whom Mary adored.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to either of the
following organizations as Mary was diagnosed with both conditions during her
life. She was always a courageous fighter.
