Celebration of the Life of Lydie Lumine A. Obas

Lydie Lumine Aurubin, born on November 1, 1946, passed away on August 28, 2024. She was the eldest daughter of Mr. Carmelo Aurubin and Madame Yvette Desvarieux. Lumine was the firstborn of seven children, though her younger sister, Harlenn Milien, sadly preceded her in death in January 2022. Her surviving siblings are Angeline Julien, Bengy Aurubin, Carmeline Pierre, Aurubin, and Evers Aurubin.
The Aurubin family resided on rue Magloire Ambroise in Port-au-Prince for many years. Lumine and her sisters received their elementary education from the Sévères brothers in the St. Gérard district. Later, the family moved to Carrefour Feuille before Lumine's Uncle, Pastor Carpel Desvarieux, a Bible teacher and widower, invited them to live with him in Diquini on the campus of the Adventist Seminary (now known as Université Adventiste d'Haïti - UNAH). It was there that Lumine and her family were first introduced to the spiritual teachings of the 7th Day Adventist Church.

On the UNAH campus, Lumine not only found her spiritual calling but also met and married the love of her life, the young Pastor Etzer Obas, on December 23, 1969. Together, they had two children: their eldest daughter, Ivaline Obas, married to Wilney Charles, with whom she had three grandchildren, Abbie, Marcus, and Annabelle; and their son, Ethny Obas, married to Nicole Robertson, who blessed them with a granddaughter, Niyel.

Lumine completed her high school education at UNAH, where she also earned a Bachelor's degree in Education. She went on to become a Professor of Psychology at UNAH. During her academic career, she also taught at the primary school and the secretarial department of the university. When not teaching, she was the Food Service Director UNAH serving thousands of students nutritious meals for many years. Later, Lumine accompanied her husband and children to Andrews University Michigan, where she earned a master's degree in psychology.
After her academic career, Lumine took on significant roles within the Union of Adventists of Haiti, overseeing the Departments of Family, Women, and Children. When she accompanied her husband to Africa, she served as an administrative secretary at the Congo-East Union. In 2005, Lumine and her retired husband relocated to the Miami Florida, where she continued to work as an administrative secretary at Broward Junior Academy in until illness forced her into retirement.

Lumine exemplified the multi-talented virtuous women in Proverbs 31. She taught anyone who would listen many inspiring life lessons through her love and passion for sewing, baking, cooking, and counseling. She was a true inspiration to those who knew her. Lumine was known as a caring and loving and most of all a God-fearing person. Throughout her career, she taught and led as a humble servant, empowering others to be their best.

Lumine dedicated 36 years of service to the ministry alongside her husband. They shared 54 years and 8 months of marriage, and she was dedicated to her husband.

Her home was always welcoming! She always greeted everyone with a smile and was an avid storyteller who loved to make everyone laugh. She was jokingly known as Dr. Lumine because of her love for gardening and her knowledge plants medicinal properties to promote healthy living.

During her retirement, Lumine faced her illnesses with grace and faith. She is now awaiting the return of Jesus peacefully. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children.
