Louis Kish passed away peacefully on June 20th at 98, surrounded by prayer and his loving family. Louis was
proceeded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Nellie, who passed away in April 2022.
Louis was born in Perth Amboy, N.J., an area he lived in until he was eight years old. His family then
moved to Harlem, N.Y., where he lived for two years, while his father could learn to speak English. The
family finally settled in the Bronx, N.Y. when he was ten.
Louis served in the Army Air Force, for three years (1943-1946) during World War II he was an AAF
Radar Operator 514. He was in the Battle of Luzon in New Guinea. The metals he received were,
American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippines Liberation
Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. The highest rank he achieved was Corporal at his time of
discharge.
In 1946 he was hired by Pan American Airlines as a wheel and landing gear mechanic in their New York
hub. In 1948 Pan American Airlines was experiencing budget cuts and he had two options, be laid off or
move to Miami, FL to keep his job. He made the choice to move to Miami and was with Pan American
Airlines for 40 years, until he retired in 1986.
With the move to Miami in 1949 he met the love of his life Nellie, at a roller rink. He told his friend at the
time, & quot; see that girl, I'm going to married her someday & quot; and he did. They married on June 3,1950 and had
four children: Keith, Cathy, Kim and Christopher.
Which created an amazing extended family of 10 grandchildren; Victoria; Juliet; Megan; Heather; Michelle;
Thomas; Jessie; Daniel; Sophia and Olivia and 10 great-grandchildren; Isaiah; Juliet; Edward; Emma Grace;
Wyatt; Jackson; Evan; Triston; Aidon; Beckett and one great-great grandchild Ellie. He was also proceeded in
death by his two sisters: Elizabeth Heltzer and Jenny Barrett.
When Louis was a young man he enjoyed ice skating, skiing and going to Yankee Stadium to see the baseball
games. As he aged, he enjoyed walking, reading, working on jigsaw puzzles and smoking cigars. He enjoyed
celebrating everything from birthdays, and graduations, to holidays with all his family and friends. He had a
wonderful LIFE.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 29th, at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57
Ave., Miami Lakes, FL 33014 (305-821-1421)
