SAUNDERS, JOSEPH H., age 90, of Miami Springs, FL, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016. His wife Vivian Saunders, and his sisters Annette Hickey and Ettie Bee Jones predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter, Joell McGee and his son, Wayne Saunders; stepsons David and Charles Russell; brothers Vernon and Daniel Saunders and sister Kathy Balough, along with 5 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. Joseph was born in Miami, FL, in 1925. He left school after 8th grade and began working at Home Milk dairy to help his parents support the family. He worked there until he went into the military. Joseph was a World War II veteran. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, and fought in the Normandy Invasion on Omaha Beach. During his military service, he achieved the rank of Technician Fourth Grade. After his discharge from the military, Joseph returned to work at the dairy, and retired after 55 years. Joseph was an avid bowler, who continued to bowl in leagues into his late 70s. He also enjoyed fishing and going to the horse races. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project () or the Police Officer Assistance Trust (poat.org). Visitation will be held at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57 Avenue, Miami Lakes, FL 33014, on Friday, January 29th, from 6pm-10pm. Services will also be held there on Saturday, January 30th, at 1pm, with interment immediately following the services.
