Jose Ramon Cedeño's Obituary

Jose Cedeno, 94, of Pembroke Pines, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, with his family by his side.

He was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to the late Julia Perez and Simon Fuentes. At just 7 years old, Jose left school due to poverty and devoted himself to helping raise his siblings—an early reflection of the selflessness that defined his life.

Jose was married to his beloved late wife, Juanita Cedeno, for 70 years. Together they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and family.

He lived in Brooklyn, New York, for 33 years, where he worked as a superintendent at 68 Montague Street. His dedication and hard work earned him a plaque of recognition, a testament to his commitment and pride in his work.

Throughout his life, Jose had a remarkable talent for fixing things. If something was broken, he could repair it. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together, always finding joy in working with his hands.

While he was known to be stern in his younger years, in his later life he became more lighthearted, often sharing old Hispanic jokes and laughter with his family. He enjoyed visiting stores to find new tools for his collection, sitting in the sun in front of his home, and when there was nothing left to fix, crafting cups from coconuts that fell in the backyard.

Jose is survived by his children: Andrew and Jose Enrique of Ponce, Puerto Rico; and Ruth Martinez and Miriam Cedeno of New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jessica Martinez, Joseph Cedeno, Gary Cedeno, Amanda Varallo, Andrew Cedeno, and Jose Cedeno; and his great-grandchildren: Arianna Caballero, Joshua Caballero, Adam Caballero, and Nora and Maria Bencibi.
