Jean-Marie G. Erie passed away on April 26, 2026, in Venice, California, leaving behind a legacy of intellect, discipline, compassion, and deep devotion to his family.

Jean-Marie was the beloved son of Fritz Erie and Mafhalda Erie, a loving brother to Hans, Jack, and Fritz Jr., and a loving brother to his sisters, Nancy and Jennifer. He shared a strong bond with his family, who remained a constant source of pride, strength, and love throughout his life.

A lifelong learner, Jean-Marie placed tremendous value on education, growth, and excellence. His academic journey began at Florida International University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He later went on to earn both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida.

Throughout his academic and professional career, Jean-Marie was actively involved in organizations including the National Society of Black Engineers, the Materials Research Society, and the American Vacuum Society.

His brilliance and dedication were recognized through numerous honors and awards, including the Raytheon Technologies Intelligence and Space Excellence (RISE) Award in 2021, along with multiple National Science Foundation LS-AMP First Place Presentation Awards. These accomplishments reflected not only his exceptional intellect, but also his passion for innovation, research, and advancing the field of science and engineering.

Beyond his academic and professional achievements, Jean-Marie had a deep passion for bodybuilding and personal wellness. He approached fitness with the same discipline, focus, and determination that defined every aspect of his life — continually striving for strength, balance, and self-improvement.

Jean-Marie will be remembered for his quiet strength, warm spirit, unwavering discipline, and the profound impact he made on those around him. His legacy lives on through his family, his achievements, and the countless lives he inspired and touched..
