Jackie Rolen Pitts "Jack" passed peacefully with dignity in his family home in Hialeah, FL on February 25, 2018 at the age of 74.
Jack was born on April 2, 1944 in Hialeah, FL to Lige Rolen Pitts and Ruth Callie Hawkins Pitts. He graduated from Hialeah High School in 1962 and went on to serve in the United States Army in 1964. During his service, he traveled to South Korea and played baseball internationally. In the summer of 1966, during a visit home, he met his future wife, Sandra Metz "Sandy", and later returned to the United States to complete his service and start his family in 1967 with Sandy. Jack was honorably discharged and later awarded with the certificate of Honest and Faithful Service in 1970. Jack also went back to college and graduated from Miami Dade Community College with an Associate Degree.
Jackie was an accomplished athlete and fighter known for his athleticism and strength across the Hialeah-Miami Lakes community. He was a devout and loyal friend who always had their back in any situation. He loved the game of baseball both on and off of the field, and he studied and watched the sport evolve his entire life. Jack housed a collection of family photographs, newspaper articles and memorabilia his mother passed on to him. He continued to grow his collection and was able to treasure and share memories of his life through story telling with his friends, children and grandchildren. His loyalty, love and witty humor made everyone around him full of joy.
Jack is survived by his two children, Shelley Louise Pitts Schmidt and Jason Rolen Pitts, and his three grandchildren, Courtney Callie Schmidt, Lindsey Louise Schmidt and Seth Charles Pitts Neeley. They will always remember him as a loving, strong and fearless father and grandpa.
