Hermys Cabañas

Emma Hermys Cabañas, 78, died on Friday, April 18, 2025.

She was born in Havana, Cuba, to the late Ana Maria and Francisco Remigio Rodríguez on May 9, 1946. She emigrated to the United States in 1961. She graduated from Hialeah High School and attended Miami Dade Junior College. She married Humberto Cabañas in 1970 and they lived together in The Woodlands, Texas, from 1980 to 2024, before returning to Miami in late 2024.

Hermys, as she was known, was always filled with love for others, especially children. She was steadfast in her love as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Hermys is survived by her husband Humberto, daughter Kaira Cabañas and son Alexis Cabañas. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Matthew Carlos; Eli Steven; and Gael Carlos.

A mass will be held at 11:30am on Friday, April 25, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish, 15801 NW 67th Avenue, Miami Lakes, 33014 with burial immediately following at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57th Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to St. Jude Research Children's Hospital.
