Fung Yee Lui

May 7, 1947 — November 27, 2025

Fung Yee Lui, 78, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 27, 2025. Born in China and raised in Hong Kong, she grew up as the oldest of four siblings and surrounded by many friends. Her early years shaped her into the responsible, steady, and deeply loyal woman she would become.

In 1972, Fung Yee married Kong Huan, and soon after they immigrated to the United States, first settling in New York City before moving to Florida in early 1977. They built their life in Hialeah, where Fung Yee, who did not speak Spanish and knew only limited English, navigated through it all, learned what she could and devoted herself fully to her family. A few years later, the couple opened Kung Fu Restaurant, which became a beloved local spot for nearly three decades, thanks in large part to Fung Yee's strong work ethic and the warmth she brought to everyone who walked through the doors.

Outside of work, Fung Yee found joy in the simple things. She loved to cook the foods she grew up with, enjoyed gardening in the backyard, and delighted in playing mahjong. She also had an eye for finding a good deal, a small hobby that always made her smile.

Fung Yee was a kind and caring woman. She was thoughtful, generous, and always looking out for the people around her. Beneath her warmth was a tremendous strength, and she faced every hardship with resilience and a determination that inspired everyone who knew her. She was endlessly selfless, always thinking of others first, and even in her final months.

Above all, Fung Yee devoted her life to her family. She wanted her children to excel, to work hard, and to grow into good, decent people. And nothing brought her more joy than her granddaughter, Sienna, whom she adored with all her heart.

She held tightly to the Chinese traditions she grew up with and did everything she could to pass them down to the next generation, from holidays and rituals to the everyday little things she wanted us to grow up knowing. Her heritage was important to her, and she ensured that it would continue through her children and granddaughter.

Fung Yee is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Kong Huan; her son, Andrew; her daughter, Irene (Scott); and her cherished granddaughter, Sienna. She will be missed dearly and will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, her strength, and the love she gave so freely.
