IN LOVING MEMORY

FLORINA ALBA ALONSO

May 4, 1933 – February 26, 2026

Florina Alba Alonso, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at her home in Miami Springs, Florida. She was 92 years old.

Flori, as we fondly called her, was born on May 4, 1933, in Florida, Camaguey, Cuba, the only daughter of the late Luciano and Angelita Mendez. She was raised in Cuba and attended the prestigious Colegio Teresiano in Havana, which was a prominent, historic, private educational institution run by the Teresain Association. Flori met the love of her life, Alberto, in 1946 whom she married in 1951 at the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Carmen, when she was 18 years old. In 1960, while pregnant with her second son Alexander, Flori moved to Miami, Florida with her husband Alberto and eldest son Albert. Soon the family grew and Flori gave birth to a little girl whom she named Lillian Lucy. Flori stayed at home and raised her children, Albert, Alexander and Lillian but soon joined the ranks at Woolco, and later Woolworth Department stores, as an accountant responsible for the company’s payroll and timekeeping. After her retirement, Flori dedicated herself to taking care of her grandchildren, whom she loved deeply with all of her heart, soul and being.

Flori leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, quite wisdom, and memories that will be cherished forever. She was the heart of the family and a pillar of strength. She was kind, strong, wise, funny and very loving. Her home was always welcoming and filled with warmth, funny stories, laughter, and the smell of Cuban food. She spent many hours making her famous “arroz con leche” and “chicharos” for her grandchildren, who would continuously ask for more. Throughout her beautiful life, Flori touched many with her warmth, humor and uncanny ability to spread joy to all whose lives she touched. She taught us patience, kindness and the importance of laughter. She was an incredible woman ahead of her time. She believed in living simply, laughing often, and loving deeply.

In addition to her parents and two brothers, Luciano and Lizardo, Flori was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Alberto who passed away recently on January 25, 2026, and her eldest son, Albert who passed away on December 21, 1990.

She is survived by her son, Alexander and daughter, Lillian; five (5) grandchildren, Vivienne, Alexander, Andre, Stefan and Isabella; and six (6) great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Alessandra, Anthony, Adriana, Annabelle, Alexander and a new baby girl on the way, to be named Soleil, due in March 2026; along with many other family members and friends who loved and will miss her dearly.

Funeral services celebrating Flori’s exceptional life will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, from 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM at the Vista Funeral Home 5755 N.W. 142nd Street, Miami Lakes, Florida. An entombment service will follow at the Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 N.W. 57th Avenue, Miami, Lakes, Florida. We invite all who knew and loved Flori to join us in honoring her memory.

Flori will be greatly missed and forever remembered. She will always live in our hearts. Rest in Peace.
