Etta Mae Carter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1929, along
with her twin sister. She was the daughter of Freda and Pleasant Bell.
On Sunday, March 19, 2023, God in His Infinite Wisdom, quietly, and with open arms of
a loving father, welcomed Etta home from her earthly sojourn.
Etta was educated in the Philadelphia School System.
Etta received Christ at an early age at Haven Memorial United Methodist Church before
transitioning to Zion Baptist Church.
Etta met and married her one true love, the late Charles Bernard Carter, on July 12,
1954. Their only child, Dr. Charletta was born in May of 1962.
Etta was employed and retired from the Philadelphia Public School System where she
served as a Teacher Assistant for over 20 years.
Etta and Charles relocated to South Florida in 1996 where they continued enjoying each
other, until the unfortunate passing of her lifelong love – Charles, on October 31 st , 2003.
Etta continued life in South Florida with the only other love of her life, her precious
daughter, Dr. Charletta, who together with her husband Sam, as he's affectionately
known, provided for and went over and above in ensuring her every need was met, up
to her hour of departure from this life.
Etta had a wonderful personality, loved to shop, loved to play her lotto numbers, and her
overall love endeared her to everyone. To know Etta was to love her. She leaves to
cherish her beautiful memories: her one daughter, Dr. Charletta Carter-McWoodson,
her son in law, Samuel McWoodson (Miami Heat Golden Oldie Dancer), step
grandchildren, step great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her loving
caregivers. Etta was preceded in death by her twin sister Iola Bird, younger sister Flora
(Kate) Jones, younger brothers Paul and Samuel Bell.
