Dorotea Paez, affectionately known to all as Dorita, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, in Miami Lakes, Florida. Born on October 15, 1929, in Caibarién, Cuba, Dorotea’s life was a tapestry woven with love, family devotion, and simple joys that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Dorita married Tomas Paez in 1944, sharing an extraordinary 61 years together until Tomas passed away in June 2005. Their union brought forth two cherished children: Carlos Paez, born in 1947, and Miriam Paez, born in 1949. In 1956, Dorotea made the brave journey from Cuba, carrying with her an unshakable spirit and a heart full of love for those she held dear. She leaves behind not only her beloved children, Carlos and Miriam, but also four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who continue to celebrate her enduring legacy.

A soul deeply rooted in family traditions, Dorita’s home was the heart of Sunday gatherings, where no matter the plans, family dinners at her house were an unbreakable ritual. These Sundays were filled with warmth, laughter, and the unforgettable flavors of her home-cooked meals, a reflection of her passion for cooking. Beyond the kitchen, Dorotea’s love blossomed in her garden, nurturing flowers with the same care and tenderness she showed her family. And in moments of simple pleasure, she always loved scratch-off lottery tickets, a pastime that added a sparkle to her spirited personality.

Dorita’s gentle and generous nature made her a beloved matriarch, a woman whose life was defined by the joy she found in nurturing both her plants and her loved ones. Her dedication to family and her vibrant enthusiasm for life left an indelible mark on all who crossed her path.

A viewing to honor Dorotea will be held on March 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Vista Funeral Home, located at 5755 NW 142nd St, Miami Lakes, FL 33014. The burial will follow on March 28, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Vista Memorial Gardens, 14200 NW 57th Ave, Miami Lakes, FL 33014.

As we gather to remember Dorita, we hold close the many Sundays spent around her table, the vibrant blooms she tended, and the loving spirit that made her house a home. Her memory will forever be a blessing to Carlos, Miriam, the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all whose lives she gently illuminated with her love.
