Carlos M. Marquez, 101, passed away peacefully in his home on March 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born November 4, 1924, in Pinar del Río, Cuba. At over a century old, Carlos lived a long and meaningful life defined by his warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His remarkable presence could light up any room with his smile.
Carlos worked in hospitality for Don Shula’s Hotel in Miami Lakes, FL, where his work ethic was reflected through his dedication and welcoming spirit.
Carlos was a deeply religious man who regularly read the Bible and spent many of his evenings in prayer. He prayed not only for his family and friends, but also for anyone who needed what he often described as a direct line to God.
He found great happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Carlos loved to cook, often preparing cornmeal for his grandchildren, and his famous coconut dessert for his family during the holidays. He began every morning with a bowl of fruits and a strong cup of Cuban coffee. He enjoyed playing dominoes, reading the newspaper, and spending quality time with those he loved.
Carlos had a charming and playful personality. He was known for wearing an abundance of cologne, his charismatic comportment towards pretty women, and reciting poems that he proudly shared with his family. His humor, kindness, and vibrant spirit made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
Above all, Carlos was an incredible father, a once in a lifetime grandfather, and a loyal friend. To his family, he was more than a loved one — he was an angel amongst us. His love, wisdom, and presence will forever remain in our hearts.
Carlos was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Francisca Marquez.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Gladys and Margarita, and cherished grandchildren, Abel and Gabriella.
His memory will live on through the countless moments of shared love, laughter, and family traditions.
