Obituary

Maria Caridad Hidalgo Mestre de Vallejo, 91, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Miami, Florida surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 3, 1934, in Guantánamo, Cuba. As a young woman, she excelled in school, and went on to study pharmaceutical science. She married the late Dr. Ivan Desiderio Vallejo on December 26, 1960 in Cuba. Together, they began to build a life centered around family, hope and faith. Amid the political upheaval in Cuba, they made the difficult decision to leave their families and homeland, and sail to America in search of freedom, and a better life for their young family. She was a wonderful and amazing woman, always providing us with strength, guidance, and unconditional love. She was the heart of our family, and our greatest role model. She devoted her life to her family and friends, and nurtured a warm, welcoming home that often served as the neighborhood gathering place. She was always ready with a warm meal and loving heart. Her greatest joy was cooking for her family, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cary was immensely proud of the life she built, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. She will be missed beyond measure. She is survived by her four sons, and their wives; Ivan and Ana Vallejo, Eric and Irma Vallejo, Osiel Vallejo, and Alex and Laura Vallejo. Ten Grandchildren Vanessa de la Osa, Ivan Vallejo, Stefan Vallejo Eric Vallejo, Alexa Souza, Kaleigh Swaringen, Karina Vallejo, Craig Vallejo, Isabelle Vallejo and Liam Vallejo Thirteen Great-Grandchildren Cameron de la Osa, Julian de la Osa, Devin de la Osa, Grayson Vallejo, Emma Vallejo, Kai Vallejo, Beckett Vallejo, Victor Vallejo, Ava Rae Vallejo, Zara Otero, Lilyanne Salazar, Elijah Swaringen, Lucas Swaringen
