Bertin Lincoln Santos was born on September 5, 1941 in Quivican, Havana, Cuba to the late Gonzalo Jose Santos and Caridad Maria Acosta. He departed from us on April 20, 2021 at the age of 79 at his home.
He was a good son, brother, husband, father and friend; "a truly exceptional person" our neighbor said and I agree.
Everyone loved him; he was jovial, friendly but more importantly, he was kind and generous, very slow to anger and always quick with a smile or laugh.
In Cuba he was an elementary school teacher and physical education teacher, he remained friends with most of his students, even after so many years, that was just the kind of person he was.
Through the forced labor which the Cuban government imposed on those who wanted to leave, he held himself patient, tough, and never lost his sense of humor or self, at least in front of me. His family's well-being always came first.
He was best known for his love of Dancing, the first on the dance floor and last to leave, even if that meant dancing on his own - most definitely the life of the party. As one of the FIU students put it, "He was admired and remembered best for his zest for life! A young soul, with a ready mischievous smile."
But he was a hard worker, too. He held two full time jobs and part-time jobs usually on the weekends, and was loved and respected in all, because he was there to work and do it to the best of his ability. At FIU his co-workers esteemed him as did the students, he let them have fun but when it was time to leave and clean up, there were no arguments or bad feelings. At the Airport, he was entrusted with many of the company's daily errands and purchases. And
although he worked practically around the clock, that was never an excuse to miss a party or take us on an outing. I never heard the words, I'm too tired from my father and left us with many happy and fun memories of riding bike, running around the yard, Trips and parties.
For his hard work, trustworthiness and selflessness he received many accolades and recognition, even going above and beyond on the day that a fire broke out at FIU.
Lincoln was united in marriage with my strong and generous mom, Susana Nereida in 1965 and from this union I was born, Adyeren Susana.
He leaves many cherished memories and much love. Papi, everyone you touched will miss you, and you will live in our hearts until we are united once again.
