Obituary

Hialeah, Florida - Armando Canovas, 94, died on May 21st, 2026 at home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on May 20th, 1932 in Guira de Melena, Cuba, the son of Higinio Canovas Martinez and Emerita Gutierrez Sanchez.

He obtained his high school diploma and trained as an electrician during his two tours of duty with the United States Air Force where he served from March 15th, 1957 until March 15th, 1965.

He married the love of his life, Haydee M. Canovas. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in November. Armando was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He served as a Master Electrician during his career with Miami-Dade County School Board. Armando was a devote Roman Catholic and until the year he passed was joining his wife shipping food and needed items to Cuba and other communities in need.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by all of his siblings: Evelio, Carlos, Matilde, Alfredo, Nilda, Jose, Maria Luisa and his half-sister Teresita. Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Haydee N. Canovas and her husband Derf J. Bridges, and his son, Pablo H. Canovas and his wife Cara (Weitzel) Canovas. He is survived by his six grandchildren: Karina, Gabriela, Dana, Paul, Mirielle and William as well as one grandchild, Luna Victoria.

A viewing and burial will be held at 9:00am Friday, May 29th, 2023 at Vista Memorial, 14200 NW 57th Ave. Miami Lakes, FL 33014
