COLONEL ANTHONY G. COLEMAN

With sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, Anthony G. "Tony" Coleman. Dad lived in Miami Springs, Florida and was 88 years old when he passed away August 12th, 2022, after a short illness. Dad is now reunited with Mom.

Dad was born April 30th, 1934, in New York City to Anthony and Catherine Coleman. Dad grew up with siblings William, Joseph, Kathleen, Edward, and Mary Ellen. Dad graduated from Providence College and entered the United States Marine Corps as an officer. Soon after, he married Shirley Ann Walch in Beeville, Texas, on March 1st, 1958. Dad was a jet fighter pilot and became squadron commander of VMA-142 at NAS Jacksonville, eventually achieving the rank of full Colonel. He served in the Marine Corps over forty-one years. Dad was also a captain with Pan American World Airways, traveling the world. As a result of his dual careers, Dad lived in numerous locales, including New York City, Beeville, TX, Santa Ana, CA and Hong Kong, before establishing his long-term residence in Miami Springs, FL, in 1968.

Dad was very active in Blessed Trinity Catholic Church. He was President of the Legion of Mary for many years, ran the Saint Vincent de Paul charitable organization for over fifty years and also served as a lector.

Dad is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Shirley, daughter Baby Girl Coleman, and brothers William and Joseph. Dad is survived by his siblings Kathleen, Edward, and Mary Ellen; children Anthony Jr. (Patricia), Richard (Lisa), William, Patricia (Albert), and Anne Marie (Stephen); his grandchildren April (Manny), Kristen (Richard), Shelby, Hannah, Alby, and Noah; plus great-grandchildren Manny, Valentina, and Savannah.

Mom and Dad loved animals and took in many stray dogs, cats, two chickens and a rabbit. Dad often said, "I am not lucky, I am blessed" and we are blessed to have had him in our lives.
