Alida Milian Ruiz

Mar 5, 1933 — Jul 23, 2021

Mrs. Alida Milian-Ruiz passed away on Friday, Jul. 23, 2021 with her family by her side. She was 88 years old. Born in Sagua La Grande, Cuba on March 5, 1933, Alida lived most of her life in the same home in Hialeah, Florida for almost 54 years. She spent most of her working years as a business owner of clothing and department stores in Miami and later helped with her husband and youngest son's Pharmacy business. Alida had an entrepreneurial spirit with a love for fashion and fine women's clothing and jewelry. She was a devoted wife to her husband Joaquin R. Ruiz, mother to Ali, Joaquin, Carlos and Maria, grandmother of twelve, and great-grandmother of thirteen along with many others whom she adopted as her own.
A lover of antiquities, Alida collected books, magazines, porcelains, furniture and other items reminiscent of those in the lavish homes of the Gilded Age and enjoyed traveling to visit historic homes. Alida was predeceased by her parents Emilio and Maria, both of Lebanese descent and her brothers, Emilio, Lázaro and Fahir. She is survived by her husband, Joaquín, 4 children, Ali, Jack and wife Aleida, Carlos and wife Ileana and Maria and husband David. Alida is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Alexander, Daniel, Christopher, Michael, Anthony, Alexa, Katrina, Andrew, David, Frances, Leslie and Eduardo and 13 great-grandchildren: Giovanni, Guilianna, Ethan, Julianna, Fabian, Julian, Zachary, Jaxson, Sebastian, Angela, Gabriella, Aiden and Nicholas. Affectionately known as Tata Alida, you could always count on her to have an assortment of desserts, sweets and chocolates stashed away for her own enjoyment or the lucky few that she shared with. Her notable middle eastern cuisine was a staple during the holidays and special occasions as well as her traditional Cuban cooking that comforted and filled the bellies of many. She's described by many as warm and welcoming and known for her pizzazz. Never missing an opportunity to look her best and expecting to always look ageless. She will be truly missed everyday by all of us. May she be eternally young and beautiful.
